About

Sawdust and Embryos

We are Beth and Nick… just a couple regular folks living the dream on our 5-acre slab o’ land in rural Iowa. We bought our 113-year-old house as newly-weds in 2009, and have been making it our own ever since (home tour here). We love documenting our progress and transformations here on the blog, and provide tutorials to empower and inspire others to tackle their own DIY projects on the cheap!

As passionate as we are about design and carpentry, nothing compares to the passion and love we have for our twin daughters… Paisley and Adelyn. When we found ourselves in the trenches of infertility, there was no choice but to work our tails off for our future family. This struggle brought us closer as a couple and shaped who we are with regards to character and work ethic.

On a hot July morning in 2011, we welcomed our girls into the world, and have been completely smitten ever since. Granted, some days they make us want to run for the hills… but I’m going to assume that most parents feel that way when they have toddlers running around.
